What do we do?

The things we do and the effect they have are widely varied: from keeping people that little bit safer by sweeping up broken glass, to helping calm down violent situations and protect people from harm.

The main things that we are able to do are:
-Care for those who have drunk too much to be able to look after themselves
-Look out for vulnerable individuals, especially those on their own
-Listen and chat to people who are emotional or aggressive to help them, and protect others
-Tidy up broken glass and abandoned bottle and glasses
-Give out information, particularly about buses and taxis, and help them find friends or family and get home safely
-Guide people to support services if they ask about them
-Give out flip-flops to girls walking in bare feet, and space blankets to those who are cold

Where and when
Street Pastors patrol the city centre from 10pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The patrols cover the area around Bedford Place and London Road, and down towards the bottom of the High Street. Anything that the Street Pastors see while patrolling that they may be able to help with, they try and do so. Sometimes that is passing on information, such as bus timetables, or handing out flip-flops or sweets to make people more comfortable. Sometimes that involves a greater level of involvement with people, listening to them if they are upset, helping them contact people, or clearing them up after they have been sick.

While patrolling, they have radio contact with all members of Licensing Link, including door staff, the police, and CCTV operators. Our partners on Licensing Link often call us in to let us know about members of the public who might need our help.
